Haryana increases compensation for martyrs' kin

The Haryana government, on Saturday, opened its coffers to relatives of martyred para military or Central forces personnel and medicos working in the Haryana government.
The state government has decided to affect 8 to 15 fold increase in the ex-gratia given to the family members of central or para-military force personnel from Haryana who get killed or disabled in operational areas or in terrorist activities.

A decision to the effect was taken at a meeting of the Haryana cabinet chaired by chief minister Bhupinder  Singh Hooda. The cabinet also announced a substantial increase in compensation in case of disability while introducing an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 20 lakh to be given to relatives of civilians who die while conducting relief and rescue operations in insurgencies and other emergency situations.

"Haryana is the first state to announce such compensation for civilians. This is to encourage residents to participate in times of crisis,'' Hooda said. The cabinet also made an attempt to correct salaries of medicos of the ranks of medical officers and senior medical officers.

HCMS doctors joining service will be appointed under group A category instead of group B. Earlier, medicos were appointed in group B and were added in group A after two years of service. "This has been done to retain doctors in government service and attract new medicos. Doctors have been leaving service and this led to shortage of doctors,'' Hooda said.

The Cabinet also relaxed conditions related to the appointment of senior medical officers (SMOs) in the Haryana government through direct or indirect (through promotion) employment. According to a new rule, PG diploma holders will also be considered for the SMO's post.

Other decisions taken in the cabinet include group C out of turn employment for the medal winners in international games recognized by the Sports Federation of India, transfer of land of government school to agriculture market in Gharaunda.
